Dear partners and colleagues,

We are reaching out with an invitation for you to join, engage and participate in York University’s upcoming 2022 Sustainable on the Go (SOTG) Virtual Conference  to be held on 17 November 2022 and focused on the theme Navigating the New Normal in Higher Education.

Co-organized by York International, the YorkU UNESCO Chair in Reorienting Education towards Sustainability and international partners – International Association of Universities (IAU), France, Okayama University (Japan) and the Canadian Commission for UNESCO (CCUNESCO) – the SOTG 2022 conference brings together mobility and international education stakeholders to discuss and consider the challenges and opportunities of navigating the new normal in higher education in ways that are both sustainable and inclusive. It will focus on three (3) main topics with inclusivity, gender and education for sustainable development (ESD) cross-cutting in all conversations:

1. Sustainable and inclusive global learning: How can universities ensure that all students, regardless of their socio-economic or cultural background, are empowered and supported to participate in international education and global learning opportunities?
2. Connecting the local and global classrooms: What are new or innovative forms of pedagogy in different regions to address diversity, equity and other sustainability themes?​
3. Local and global community engagement: What are the roles and responsibilities of students or graduates of higher education in their local communities? How do we empower and prepare students for continued community and global engagement post-graduation?

This year, SOTG partners has integrated and added a Youth engagement program highlighting student and young peoples’ voices on these vital questions and their crucial role in shaping the future of global mobility and exchanges post pandemic.
